As of 12 August 2009, Tyanite wrote in the discussion page and in the Current Events page with hopes of creating a lively discussion of emulation and virtualization with QEMU. Current events: Ubuntu 9.10 is in the testing stage and will be in final release soon. Ubuntu is a great flavor of Linux, and arguably the most promising of all of the Linux distributions for the desktop user. More experienced Ubuntu Server users will have to comment on Ubuntu Server. ReactOS, the Windows XP like operating system, is gaining in popularity and use. ReactOS developers continue to iron out small problems and are making great headway in achieving ever greater levels of native compatibility with XP applications.
Rumors have it that the Chinese have adoped ReactOS open source code and have put it under incredibly intensive development in order to quickly develop a commercial Windows-compatible operating system at a far cheaper price. Translated from Mandarin Chinese, the project is simply called DragonOS. Price estimates for DragonOS range from $9.95 US to $29.95 US. This would be the first major operating system for sale from China. Insiders joke that customer service from the enterprising communist country is predicted to be on par with that of the famous company headquartered in Redmond, Washington - neither could care less.
